The 2003 Taurus is an important vehicle to Ford for the sedan market segment. The SE Comfort is a member of a series of four trim levels for the Taurus which include SE Comfort, LX, and SE 2-Valve. The four-door car with its front-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Honda.

Ford Taurus Engine Specs

The Taurus SE Comfort is equipped with a Ford 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The Vulcan engine is mated to a Ford 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

The Taurus uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The Taurus is 197.60 inches long, 73.00 inches wide, and 56.10 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 108.50 inches. It is able to seat 6 comfortably.

The listed retail price in 2003 (MSRP) was $21,480, with a dealer invoice cost of $19,667. This price is in line with the industry average price for a four-door Sedan.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2003 Taurus is a traditional SFI, running on FLEX fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 18.00 gallons.

The Taurus SE Comfort received a miles-per-gallon rating of nineteen in-city driving and twenty seven when it came to highway driving. Being a flex-powered hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

What We Think of the Ford Taurus

The 2003 model year was very successful for the Ford Taurus. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the SE Comfort version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
