First Impressions of the Ford Taurus for 2001

There have been several award-winning cars from Ford over the years, including the Ford Taurus of 2001. There are four trim levels to the Taurus, including LX, SE, SE 2-Valve, and SE 4-Valve. The SE 2-Valve version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2000 the popular 3.0 liter Vulcan has made this a popular choice for sedan buyers across the country.
Ford Taurus Engine Specs
Standard equipment in the Taurus for 2000 and 2001 includes the 3.0 liter engine by Ford, weighing in at 6 cylinders and twelve valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transaxle puts the power of the Vulcan engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Sedan arena.
The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Taurus uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.
The fuel system for the 2001 Taurus is a traditional SFI, running on FLEX fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 18.00 gallons.
Vehicle Statistics
The dimensions of the Taurus SE 2-Valve are 73.00 inches wide by 197.60 inches long. It sits 56.10 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 108.50 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.
The standard warranty period for the Taurus is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sedan market.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $19,325 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $17,868. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sedan.
MPG Ratings
The Taurus SE 2-Valve received a miles-per-gallon rating of nineteen in-city driving and twenty eight when it came to highway driving. Being a flex-powered green car, this was exceptional.
In 2000 and 2001 the Taurus SE 2-Valve was availble in the exterior colors of Black Clearcoat, Chestnut Clearcoat Metallic, Graphite Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Harvest Gold Clearcoat Metallic, Medium Royal Blue Clearcoat Metallic, Silver Frost Clearcoat Metallic, Spruce Green Clearcoat Metallic, Toreador Red Clearcoat Metallic, and Vibrant White Clearcoat.

Good article. At first I felt like I needed to refute your review of the Ford Taurus, but after further reflection I can see your point of view. Perhaps my personal Taurus SE 2-Valve is an abberation. What is everyone else’s experiences?
