The 2000 Ford Taurus LX was introduced to compete in the sedan market. The LX is a member of a series of six trim levels for the Taurus which include SVG, LX, SE, SE 2-Valve, SE 4-Valve, and SE Comfort. The four-door car with its front-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Infiniti.

Ford Taurus Engine Specs

The Taurus LX is equipped with a Ford 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The Vulcan engine is mated to a Ford 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Taurus has power-assisted brakes, with Non-ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The dimensions of the Taurus LX are 73.00 inches wide by 197.60 inches long. It sits a comfortable 56.10 inches off the ground. It seats a standard five passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 108.50 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $18,935 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $17,232. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sedan.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel is handled for the Taurus is a SFI design, running on FLEX fuel. The FLEX is managed by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 18.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

The Taurus LX received a miles-per-gallon rating of nineteen in-city driving and twenty eight when it came to long-distance. Being a flex-powered hybrid car, this was exceptional.
