Our Review of the 1997 Ford Taurus GL

There have been several award-winning cars from Ford over the years, including the Ford Taurus of 1997. There are four trim levels to the Taurus, including G, GL, LX, and SHO. The GL version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 1996 the popular 3.0 liter Vulcan has made this a popular choice for sedan buyers nationwide.

1997 Ford Taurus GL Specs

The Taurus GL is equipped with a Ford 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 12 valves. The Vulcan engine is mated to a Ford 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

The fuel system for the 1997 Taurus is a SFI system, running on FLEX . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Taurus uses power-assisted brakes, with Non-ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The dimensions of the Taurus GL are 73.00 inches wide by 197.50 inches long. It sits 55.10 inches off the ground. It seats a standard six passengers, with 4 doors. The wheelbase of 108.50 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

What We Think of the Ford Taurus

The 1997 model year was very successful for the Ford Taurus. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the GL version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
