A high point in the sport utility market is the Toyota Highlander. In 2007 Toyota rolled out an upgraded version of the Highlander with five versions: Base, Hybrid, Hybrid Limited, and Sport. Sales for the Highlander, especially the Highlander Hybrid, were brisk during 2007 and 2008. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.

2007 Toyota Highlander Hybrid Specs

The restyled Highlander Hybrid is equipped with a 3.3-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a N/A four-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2006 version.

The fuel system for the 2007 Highlander is a SFI system, running on ELECTRIC/GAS . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The Highlander uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The truck uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The Highlander is 184.60 inches long, 71.90 inches wide, and 68.30 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 106.90 inches. It is able to seat 7 comfortably.

The listed retail price in 2007 (MSRP) was $32,210, with a dealer invoice cost of $28,667. This price is in line with the industry average price for a four-door Sport Utility.

There is a 36,000 mile, 36 month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 60,000/60 miles/months. This is normal for this price range.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2007 Highlander gets 24 miles/gallon on the highway and only 18 in the city. This is below average for a sport utility truck.

The 2006 model began the promise of the Toyota Highlander. The 2007 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Toyota hopes that the Highlander Hybrid will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
