The 2007 Prius is an important vehicle to Toyota for the hatchback market segment. The Base is a member of a series of two trim levels for the Prius which include Base and Touring. The four-door car with its front-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Toyota. There is strong competition from vehicles from Acura.

In 2008 Chevrolet released the Impala LTZ to the car-buying market. The Impala came in five configurations: 50th Anniversary Edition, LS, LT, LTZ, and SS. The LTZ configuration is powered by the 3.9-liter six-cylinder engine, which makes 29 highway miles and 18 city. The Impala competes in the Sedan market segment, in direct competition with Honda.
