The Chevrolet Express 3500 Base for 2003
A high point in the cutaway van market is the Chevrolet Express 3500. In 2003 Chevrolet rolled out an upgraded version of the Express 3500 with two versions: Base and LS. Sales for the Express 3500, especially the Express 3500 Base, were brisk during 2003 and 2004. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.

Standard equipment in the Express 3500 for 2002 and 2003 includes the 6.0 liter engine by General Motors, weighing in at 8 cylinders and sixteen valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the Vortec engine to the pavement. The has proven to be a popular configuration for the Express 3500.
Steering control is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The Express 3500 comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The van uses coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

The Express 3500 is 244.10 inches long, 79.40 inches wide, and 82.00 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 155.00 inches. It is able to seat 12 comfortably.
The listed retail price in 2003 (MSRP) was $28,859, with a dealer invoice cost of $25,248. This price is in line with the industry average price for a two-door Cutaway Van.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2003 Express 3500 is a SFI system, running on CNG . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.
The Express 3500 Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty three when it came to highway driving. Being a cng-powered green van, this was within normal parameters.
