Insight Into the Ford F-150 for 2001

There have been several award-winning trucks from Ford over the years, including the Ford F-150 of 2001. There are six trim levels to the F-150, including XLT, Harley-Davidson Edition, Lightning, Lariat, and King Ranch. The XLT version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2000 the popular 5.4 liter Triton has made this a popular choice for standard cab pickup buyers across the country.
Under the Hood
Standard equipment in the F-150 for 2000 and 2001 includes the 5.4 liter engine by Ford, weighing in at 8 cylinders and sixteen valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the Triton engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Standard Cab Pickup arena.
The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The F-150 uses power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and leaf in the rear.
Vehicle Statistics
The dimensions of the F-150 XLT are 79.30 inches wide by 225.50 inches long. It sits 72.40 inches off the ground. It seats a standard three passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 138.50 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $17,545 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $15,693. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2001 F-150 is a SFI system, running on BI-FUEL . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 30.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.
The 2001 F-150 gets 19 - 21 miles/gallon on the highway and only 15 - 16 in the city. This is subpar for a standard cab pickup truck.
We Think...
The 2000 model began the promise of the Ford F-150. The 2001 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Ford hopes that the F-150 XLT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
