Ford F-250

One of the staples of the Standard Cab Pickup segment is the Ford F-250. In the previous model year debuted a brand new version of the F-250 with four versions: XL, XLT, Base, and Lariat. Sales for the F-250, especially the F-250 XL, were brisk during 1999 and 2000. The improved vehicle quality and the modern styling were responsible for the boost in sales.

Performance

The F-250 XL is equipped with a Ford 5.4 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Triton engine is mated to a Ford 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

Fuel is handled for the F-250 is a SFI design, running on BI-FUEL fuel. The BI-FUEL is handled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 30.00 gallons.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The F-250 has power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. The truck uses coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

The F-250 is 224.20 inches long, 78.40 inches wide, and 73.30 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 138.50 inches. It is able to seat 3 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $23,700 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $20,655. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Standard Cab Pickup.

The standard warranty period for the F-250 is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the standard cab pickup market.

Fuel Efficiency

The F-250 XL received a miles-per-gallon rating of 13 - 14 in-city driving and 17 - 18 when it came to long-distance. Being a bi-fuel-powered hybrid truck, this was subpar.
