The Ford F-250 Base for 1998

Ford F-250

Buyers of the Ford F-250 are aware of the reputation of the truck they are purchasing. The F-250 has been one of the premier vehicles of the Ford line for years. It is considered an institution of a truck and the 1998 model is no exception. The Ford F-250 falls into the standard cab pickup for the family category. People who purchase the F-250 have been doing so for the last few generations in a family. It is a constant that only gets better with age.

Performance

The F-250 Base is equipped with a Ford 5.4 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Triton engine is mated to a Ford 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

The fuel system for the 1998 F-250 is a SFI design, running on BI-FUEL fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 30.00 gallons.

The F-250 uses power-assisted brakes, with 2-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses coil and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

F-250 Base Statistics

The F-250 is 220.80 inches long, 78.40 inches wide, and 73.30 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 138.50 inches. It is able to seat 3 comfortably.

The listed retail price in 1998 (MSRP) was $22,225, with an invoice cost of $19,402. This price is above average of the industry average price for a two-door Standard Cab Pickup.

The standard warranty period for the F-250 is 60* months, or 50,000* miles, whichever comes first. The warranty also includes a warranty on the drivetrain for 36* months or 50,000* miles respectively. This is standard in the standard cab pickup market. Extended warranties are also available through the dealer.

Fuel Efficiency

The F-250 Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of 13 - 15 in-city driving and 18 - 19 when it came to long-distance. Being a bi-fuel-powered hybrid truck, this was subpar.

Conclusion

The 1997 model began the promise of the Ford F-250. The 1998 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Ford hopes that the F-250 Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
