The Ford Expedition EL King Ranch for 2009: Improving on 2008

There have been several award-winning trucks from Ford over the years, including the Ford Expedition of 2009. There are eight trim levels to the Expedition, including Eddie Bauer, King Ranch, Limited, XLT, EL Eddie Bauer, EL King Ranch, EL Limited, and EL XLT. The EL King Ranch version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2008 the popular 5.4 liter Triton has made this a popular choice for sport utility buyers nationwide.
Under the Hood
The restyled Expedition EL King Ranch is equipped with a 5.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The Triton engine is mated to a ZF six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2008 version.
The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Expedition uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.
Statistics
The Expedition is inches long, inches wide, and inches high. It has a wheelbase of inches. It is able to seat several adults comfortably.
The listed retail price in 2009 (MSRP) was an industry-average price, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-average price. This price is on target the industry average price for a four-door Sport Utility.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2009 Expedition is a SFI design, using FLEX fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 12 gallons.
The 2009 Expedition gets 23 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 in the city. This is subpar for a sport utility truck.
What We Think of the Ford Expedition
There are several reasons why the Ford Expedition EL King Ranch sold well in 2009. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Ford, specifically a Expedition.
