The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS for 2005

Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The restyled Silverado 1500 LS is equipped with a 5.3-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2004 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are drum. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The Silverado 1500 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and leaf in the rear.

Statistics

The Silverado 1500 is 246.60 inches long, 78.50 inches wide, and 70.80 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 157.50 inches. It is able to seat 6 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Silverado 1500 is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 36 months or 36,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the extended cab pickup market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $27,615 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $24,163. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Extended Cab Pickup.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2005 Silverado 1500 is a SFI design, using FLEX fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 34.00 gallons.

The 2005 Silverado 1500 gets 20 - 21 miles/gallon on the highway and only 16 in the city. This is subpar for a extended cab pickup truck.

What We Think of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The 2004 model began the promise of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The 2005 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Chevrolet hopes that the Silverado 1500 LS will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
