When you think of the "Ford Escape" what will usually come to mind for Ford enthusiasts is quality, stability and lots of history. The Escape has been one of the premier vehicles of the Ford line for over ten years. It is an important truck and the 2006 model is no exception. Standard equipment in the Escape for 2005 and 2006 includes the 2.3 liter engine by Ford, weighing in at 4 cylinders and sixteen valves. A 4-speed Automatic CVT Transaxle puts the power of the Duratec engine to the pavement. The has proven to be a popular configuration for the Escape.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Escape uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2006 Escape is a traditional SFI, running on ELECTRIC/GAS fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 16.50 gallons.

The Escape Hybrid received a miles-per-gallon rating of twenty two in-city driving and twenty six when it came to highway driving. Being a electric/gas-powered green truck, this was within normal parameters.

The vehicle is available in Black, Blazing Copper Metallic, Dark Shadow Gray Metallic, Dark Stone, Gold Ash Metallic, Norsea Blue Metallic, Oxford White, Red Fire Metallic, Silver Metallic, Sonic Blue Metallic, and Titanium Green Metallic.

What We Think of the Ford Escape

The 2005 model began the promise of the Ford Escape. The 2006 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Ford hopes that the Escape Hybrid will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
