First Impressions of the Ford E-150 for 2009

The 2009 E-150 is an important vehicle to Ford for the standard cargo van market segment. The Base is a member of a series of three trim levels for the E-150 which include Base, XL, and XLT. The three-door van with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Toyota.

2009 Ford E-150 Base Specs

The E-150 Base is equipped with a Ford 4.6 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Triton engine is mated to a Ford 4-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Ford.

The E-150 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The van uses coil and leaf springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2009 E-150 is a traditional SFI, running on FLEX fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 12 gallons.
