Overview 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe LT

Chevrolet Tahoe

Standard equipment in the Tahoe for 2005 and 2006 includes the 5.3 liter engine by General Motors, weighing in at 8 cylinders and sixteen valves. A 4-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the Vortec engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Sport Utility arena.

The Tahoe uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering gear-style configuration. The truck uses torsion bar and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

The Tahoe is 198.80 inches long, 78.80 inches wide, and 74.80 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 116.00 inches. It is able to seat 6 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Tahoe is 36 months, or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 36 months or 36,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the sport utility market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $35,815 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $31,696. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2006 Tahoe is a SFI system, running on FLEX . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 26.00-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

The 2006 Tahoe gets 20 miles/gallon on the highway and only 15 - 16 in the city. This is subpar for a sport utility truck.

We Think...

There are several reasons why the Chevrolet Tahoe LT sold well in 2006. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Chevrolet, specifically a Tahoe.

I’m liking Hyundai over Chevrolet. It think it’s the difference in reliability. My first Tahoe worked quite well, but the second one (a LT BTW) didn’t fare so well…
