One of the staples of the Sport Utility segment is the Ford Escape. In the previous model year released a brand new version of the Escape with four versions: Hybrid, Limited, XLS, and XLT. Sales for the Escape, especially the Escape Hybrid, were brisk during 2007 and 2008. The improved vehicle quality and the classic styling were responsible for the sales boost.

In 2005 Ford released the Escape Hybrid to the truck-buying market. The Escape came in six configurations: Limited, XLS, XLT, XLT Sport, XLT No Boundaries, and Hybrid. The Hybrid configuration is powered by the 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, which makes 25 highway miles and 22 city. The Escape competes in the Sport Utility market segment, in direct competition with Toyota.

The restyled Escape Hybrid is equipped with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Duratec engine is mated to a Ford four-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.
