The Z71 configuration is powered by the 5.3-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 21 highway miles and 15 city. The Suburban 1500 competes in the Sport Utility market segment, in direct competition with Kia.

The restyled Suburban 1500 Z71 is equipped with a 5.3-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 16 valves. The Vortec engine is mated to a General Motors four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2005 version.
