The 2002 F-150 is an important vehicle to Ford for the standard cab pickup market segment. The XL is a member of a series of six trim levels for the F-150 which include XLT, Harley-Davidson Edition, Lightning, King Ranch, and Lariat. The two-door truck with its four-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Ford. There is strong competition from vehicles from Toyota.

A high point in the standard cab pickup market is the Ford F-150. In 1996 Ford rolled out an upgraded version of the F-150 with four versions: Special, XL, XLT, and Eddie Bauer. Sales for the F-150, especially the F-150 XL, were brisk during 1996 and 1997. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the increased interest.

Ford F-150

The Ford F-150 is a 2-door truck available at your Ford dealer. The F-150 came in six configurations: Lightning, XLT, King Ranch, Lariat, and Harley-Davidson Edition. The XL configuration is powered by the 5.4-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 19 - 20 highway miles and 14 - 17 city. The F-150 competes in the Standard Cab Pickup market segment, in direct competition with Acura.
